How
can others say that they understand what we are going through? Since
everyone has different experiences, then it would seem to be that how we see things would also be different. When we listen to others as they go through their
difficulties,we shouldn't be so hasty in giving out advice. For what we do in certain circumstance may be very different from
what others would do. Knowing this, the best support we can give is to listen. We need to be mindful that everyone goes through challenging times at some point in life and it is through these experiences, we learn
and grow. So when giving words of wisdom to someone, know that we may
be hindering instead of helping the person move on their path. Today, be selfless. When someone tells you that they have a problem, listen with your heart not your mind. They may just need to work things out by talking about it. Most people know what to do. They're just afraid to take action. By giving your perspective too quickly, you are taking away their power to resolve the issue themselves. In times like these, just listen.
Viewing the ocean from another perspective...
(Whenever I think about perspectives, I always remember the story about the elephant. How depending on where the person stood near the elephant, their description of the animal would be different. But by putting together all of the descriptions, we have a picture of the whole elephant. I think that's what we need to remember when sharing our perspectives with others. We can only share our thoughts on the subject. But combining everyone's thoughts, we have better clarity on the the problem at hand.)
